RAINBOWS

We've been having a warmer than normal winter so  far.

This week is frigid.

Yesterday, Sunday January 10, 2016, it was warm - upper 40's to low 50's. YAY!!!

It was raining at times, and drizzling at times.

The sun started peeking out around 11am, with a drizzle. then...

RAINBOW!!!

As we traveled from Plains by the river, past Wilkes-Barre, 

there were some dramatic clouds in the clearing sky.

LAST NIGHT WE COULD SEE VENUS!

A friend posted a link about the planet, Venus, in the night sky, 

last evening, June 19, 2015,

So after reading this link:

I went to my window looking west. 

(the same window from which I take many of my MOUNTAIN photos.)

The crescent moon was low, just above the mountain ridge, 

and the bright orb above it - eureka!!

VENUS!

I'm in Plains, PA, next to Wilkes-Barre, looking west across the Susquehanna river, 

towards Dallas Twp, "the Back Mountain"... and all points West.

SNOW TREE Reflection

Today the Northeast got lots of snow.

We expected 1-3"

We got 4-6"

Heavy wet snow to shovel, so I took a break and tried out my new camera.

Here's my 1st  photo with "reflection" setting.

(hard to believe the tree's really surrounded by houses, cars...)

A VERY TALL TREE with treeline in the background... and a telephone pole to the right.

The Susquehanna River runs approximately parallel to Route 11 from the town of Plains up to Pittston; it's to the right of Rt 11 and looks green in this view. The mountain range in this blog is the green area, with not many signs of habitation,  further to the left of Rt 11, and the Francis Slocum State Park is on the other side of the ridge, on the "back-side" of the mountain view I see.  The cities & towns all along the river make up  the Wyoming Valley. Pa. USA We're seeing the mountains from the east side of the river, just north of Wilkes-Barre in Plains.
Many locations, etc., in NEPA, this area of Pennsylvania are derived from original Native American words. Here's a quote from Wikipedia: "The Susquehannock people were Iroquoian-speaking Native Americans who lived in areas adjacent to the Susquehanna River and its tributaries from the southern part of what is now New York, through Pennsylvania."
